Guy P. Gannett House
Augusta ME
Context - The Guy P. Gannett House is a significant property by association, location and architecture. Guy Gannett was perhaps the most significant publisher in the history of the Maine press. His house is one of a trio of significant properties representing key aspects of governance the Capitol (home to the citizens Legislature), the Blaine House (home to Maines Chief Executive), and next door the Guy P. Gannett House (home to one of Maines most influential business leaders). Its generous setback from the street deferentially frames the most popular approach to the Capitol from downtown Augusta, and it defines the edge of the Capitol Complex National Historic District.
General Conditions Assessment - The Guy P. Gannet House was recently vacated after serving state agencies for decades. The Maine Bureau of General Services commissioned Lachman Architects & Planners to provide relevant historic and existing conditions information to support discussions about the future of the property. The 85 page document is in a clear, graphic format to facilitate Stakeholder understanding.
