Building Community - with community buildings
475 Main Street
Rockland, ME
475 Main Street is a two and a half story building that was built in 1885. A recent expansion of the Rockland Historic District changed the boundary, and now includes 475 Main Street. It is one of only two buildings in downtown that front both Main Street and the harbor. Street level is commercial storefront and the 2nd and 3rd stories are apartments. Walk-out basement is underutilized and fronts on the future path of the Rockland Harbor Trail allowing potential pedestrian access to 4,001 sq. ft. of redeveloped space.
The building is a wood framed structure typical to commercial architecture of the region and period. The Main St. exterior is well composed with wood cornice brackets, wood clapboards, and storefront glazing and panel system along the street edge. Shed dormers were added in 1912. Side and rear exteriors are covered with a mix of aluminum and wood siding.
