Building Community - with community buildings
Thorndike Hotel
Rockland, ME
Originally known as the Thorndike Hotel, this building has played a key role in Rockland for well over a century. The L shaped property is located at a highly prominent and strategic corner at the core of Rocklands historic and highly regarded revitalized downtown. The large brick structure is classically organized - with commercial activity at the ground level and 50 units of low and moderate income apartments in 2 stories above.
The owner seeks to address exterior masonry and wood repairs, interior code and safety improvements, and upgrade tired apartments. Additionally the owner seeks to take advantage of multiple programs providing incentives, grants and/or loans for rehabilitation. These multiple, separate, yet interrelated improvements, funded by various programs with their individual applications, scope, requirements and timelines - make this project complex.
